Play Life Like a Video Game
Sometimes we all take life a little too seriously. When this happens, it can be fun to play life like a video game instead of worrying about it too much.
I’ve found that looking at life in this manner helps me keep perspective, stay positive and enjoy the ride along the way.
Ultimately, it is my belief that reality is a lot more of a program or a hologram than it is a tangible reality. In other words, reality can be manipulated and adjusted-it isn’t static or set in stone.
If you’d like to learn more about a “holographic universe” before reading on below, check out this Facebook video I created yesterday.
So, if life is like a program or a hologram, I think a video game is also a fantastic way to see it.
Think about it.
A video game has levels, and the objective is to climb from level to level. As you advance in your game play, you achieve higher levels of success. As you advance in your game play, you grow in your skill and ability. Over time, you become a true master of the game.
The same is true of our reality. If we choose to advance our “game play,” we get better and better at the game of life.
I’ve seen this happen in my life, and watched countless others do the same. Where I was ten years ago was much different than where I am today. I’m in a much better place than I was back then. It’s as if, over time, we “level up.”
Of course, when we advance to a new level, it isn’t as easy as it was on the level before. At first we stumble a little bit. We haven’t yet developed enough skill to advance any further, so we must play on the level we are on for awhile to develop the chops to move even further.
Getting stuck instead of advancing
Now, the opposite is also true. When it come to video games, it can be much easier to continue to play the same level over and over again instead of attempting to level up.
After all, if you rehearse the same level over and over again, you can mindlessly wander through the level without much thought or need for improvement.
That being said, though it’s much easier to stay on the same level, it also gets kind of boring. You see the same stuff every time you play the same level. There isn’t much change.
The same is true in life. Sometimes we get stuck on a “level” because it’s comfortable or easy. We keep the same routine, we react the same way to circumstances.
It’s easy, but over time it gets boring. When we choose not to advance, life becomes an endless loop of “groundhog’s days.” Same shit, different day.
This is something to consider when it comes to life. When greeted with new challenges and obstacles, people often get frustrated. Sometimes, they even give up, and retreat back into the familiar.
However, when you play life like a video game, you can start to see challenges and obstacles as an indication you’ve “leveled up.” You’ve advanced to a new platform.
It won’t be as easy as it was before, but it will be a lot more exciting. Also, you can rest in assurance that if you keep on the level you’ve advanced to you will get better and better at it with practice.
Finally, at the end of the day, a video game is meant to be fun-and life can be fun too. They only become frustrating when we take them too seriously.
So when life hands you a few new complications, get excited. You’ve moved up! You’re ready for the challenges you are dealing with. Play life like a video game and know in your heart that with a little bit of time you will come to master this new platform you are on. Before you know it, you may be ready to level up again.
