6 Critical Reasons to Take it Easy When You Mess Up
Do you take it easy when you mess up, or instead to you criticize and judge yourself?
If the latter, you are in good company! Many people I meet hold themselves to high standards, and they become rather disappointed when they fail to achieve them.
That being said, it is absolutely possible to hold high standards and simultaneously cut yourself some slack when you fall short. In fact, if you want to live to your highest potential, it is critical that you accept yourself in the face of your shortcomings.
So today, I’d like to share 6 reasons to take it easy when you mess up.
1. No one’s perfect.
Period. We are all perfectly flawed, and that’s exactly how it should be.
2. Accidents and mistakes happen.
That’s why they’re called accidents and mistakes. If it wasn’t on purpose, you’re all good in my book (so you might as well be good in yours too!).
3. Everyone else is worried about their own stuff, not yours.
A lot of times we worry that others are judging or criticizing our every move. However, the only time people watch you like a hawk is when on some level, the are impressed with you. No one really minds that you have “less-than” moments other than you.
4. It sets a good example!
Allowing yourself the leniency to be less-than-perfect sets a good example for other impressionable people. When you let yourself off the hook, you let those you love know it’s ok for them to do the same!
5. You’re doing the best you know how to do.
If you knew then what you know now, you would have done things differently, sure! But you didn’t, so why beat up on yourself for not having perfect foresight?
6. It’s the best thing you can do for yourself right now.
Self-criticism and self-judgement only make you feel like garbage. Your life just won’t be at it’s highest potential if you fee like crap about yourself.

I hope these reasons help remind you to take it easy when you mess up! It’s all well and good to reach for your best. However, part of being your best self is loving yourself enough to accept your less-than-perfect moments.
