These days, many people spend a significant amount of time using social media. It is important that you are aware that checking your social media frequently has the power to overwhelm you with positive or negative feelings, depending on the content that you are looking at. Managing the content you read and follow on social media is a great Law of Attraction strategy. While you do not have the power to control what kinds of posts/tweets people create, there are several things that you could do to ensure that your social media uplifts rather than discourages you. Consider changing how you use your social media accounts in any or all of the following easy ways:

1. Be mindful of your posts and tweets

A negative thought in your mind (e.g. “my job sucks”) already has a lot of universal pull. Put that thought in writing and show it to several hundred people, and you’ve just amplified that magnetism exponentially. Now, not only do YOU think your job sucks, but so does everyone else on your news feed including many of your friends, family, coworkers, and random acquaintances. The problem with this is that more people you share the negative with-the greater its attraction to you. Therefore, it is in your best interest to be selective in how you post or tweet. Post about the things you like about your life. Post about things that interest you. Post about the accomplishments of others. Post things that are funny. Focus on lifting yourself and others up through your posts. Trust me, I know that it can be extremely tempting to vent on social media, but realize in doing so you are only attracting more of what you don’t want.

2. Be mindful of your friends and followers

At this stage in the game it is highly likely that you have accumulated quite a few friends and followers on your preferred social media outlet. You’ve probably had some experience with a few Negative Nellies cluttering up your feed with posts that spread worry, fear, hatred, bigotry, intolerance, anger or jealousy.

To protect your vibration from this content, first realize these people are probably unaware of the profound negative influence they are creating in their life and the lives of others (including you!). Take a moment to feel compassion for them as they know not what they do.

If compassionate thoughts aren’t enough to guard you from anger or annoyance it might good idea for you to move to the next step and unfriend or unfollow for the sake of protecting your vibration. You are not helping anyone, including the friend in question, by subjecting yourself to chronic negative posting. I personally do not like unfriending people on Facebook because I don’t want to hurt their feelings, but I am a big fan of the “unfollow” option which allows me to retain the “friend” status, but keeps all of their posts out of my feed.

3. Follow interests that inspire you

In addition to removing unwanted content, I like to add “positive” content to my feeds by following/liking/friending pages that I find inspiring, funny or interesting. I personally follow a lot of pages that have spiritual content. I also follow inspirational people and pages that post inspirational quotes or funny videos. This way there is always plenty of content streaming through my feeds that makes me smile, laugh or feel gratitude. *Please note that on Facebook you will need to like, comment or share posts by your favorite pages if you want them to consistently stream through your feed.

4. Remove pages that no longer serve you

Take a long look through the company/celebrity/interest/group pages you have chosen to follow, and remove those that are cluttering your feed with unwanted advertising, or content that is sad, annoying or disturbing. When I did this I had literally hundreds of pages that were boring, annoying or bringing me down. Take a half hour of your time and trim the fat-you’ll appreciate it immediately.

5. Spread the love

When you see posts, pictures, tweets, videos, etc that make you feel a little happier show some love and like/retweet/comment/share/etc! If you support the positive posts of your followers and friends the law of attraction will inspire them to post more of the same. It’s a very easy way to increase the probability that friends and followers will post more things that you like. Another added bonus-people will be more supportive of your posts in turn. You get what you give.

6. For God’s sake, please don’t feed the trolls!

It can be so tempting to engage in arguments on social media. Sometimes you find yourself reading through the comments on a news article and see a statement that offends you to your core. Realize that it’s not your job to police other peoples’ thoughts, behaviors and beliefs. Resist the urge to engage in a battle of wits with the trolls. When you choose to engage in an argument like this you are drawing more offensive comments, arguments and trolls to you. The trolls will stay under the bridge if you leave them alone.

7. Sometimes you might appreciate a break

I love social media as much as the next person, but sometimes I like to take a week off if I find myself getting annoyed with the content. I recommend taking some extended time off from social media (a week or so) once in awhile if it’s feeling overbearing. During this break spend your new free time doing something fun. Read a new book, watch some movies you’ve been wanting to see, go for a walk, play a video game, bake some cookies, call your friends and family to talk-whatever gets you going. If you’re reading this, chances are social media is eating up a lot of your free time-which is perfectly fine if you’re enjoying it, but if you’re not remember you can use that time for other activities that could make you happier!

I’m highly sensitive and recently realized the need to stay away from toxic subjects and people. It drains my energy and can wreck havoc with my body. This site is just what I needed. Social media and politics can make my blood pressure go up. Also, I was attracting more negative energy into my life. I need to apologize to those who may have been zapped with a huge dose of negativity. From now on, I’ll take the positive route all the way!

Great article! What about blocking people on social media who have brought harm to you in 1 way or another, whether you used to be friends with them or not. The reason for blocking them is to keep them from checking on you.

That would be helpful DD. It is also helpful to understand the dynamics of what causes these kinds of harmful relationships. You might like this video here: https://raiseyourvibrationtoday.com/2017/05/12/toxic-people-the-law-of-attraction-and-quantum-physics/
