Working WITH Your Energy, Rather Than Against It

Are you working with your energy, and riding a blissful wave of life enjoyment? Or, does it feel like you are getting beat up by life right now?

There is no coincidence between how you manage your energy and your life outcomes. As it turns out, working with your energy is critical for how good you feel about your life.

Now, your energy is a funny thing, because it is always moving and changing. Some times are best for movement and progress, while others are best for rest and reflection.

When we misinterpret the timing, however, things don’t go so well.

Moving too fast?

For example, let’s say you’ve got it in your mind that you WILL be the best salesperson at work this year. You’re working hard, taking on more challenges than usual and doing your very best to be motivated toward your goal.

Now, on the surface, this may seem like a good thing. You have a goal and you are working toward it! Nothing wrong with that.

However, sometimes when we find ourselves in a place like this we can turn into a dog with a bone. Instead of taking cues from the environment that it’s time to rest and reflect, sometimes you may find yourself burning the midnight oil to your detriment.

This happens frequently with people. Often, we become obsessed with progress to the point we neglect our rest, our nutrition and our other needs.

Unfortunately, when this happens, we often get sidelined with big stumbling blocks. Out of nowhere, we become incapacitated by an illness, we lose a big account or we suffer a relationship problem that leaks over into our job.

This is because we have to work with our energy, not against it.

Now, to be clear, the same phenomenon can happen in reverse.

Moving too slow?

For example, perhaps you’ve been on a vacation for a few weeks and you finally come home. Instead of taking cues that it’s time for you to start getting back into the momentum of real life before Monday comes calling, you find yourself procrastinating.

Instead of putting away your suitcase and checking your email, you lay around the house for another day, pushing off anything that could be done until the last possible minute of action.

This can cause a whole other host of issues, leading you to build up more and more things to pull you into action. The burden of so much “to do” can often become overwhelming and debilitating.

Instead of easing into action, you stall out entirely until you absolutely must move. Then, instead of warming back up so you can easily jog back into your day-to-day on Monday, it feels like you have to go from 0 to 100 at 7am after weeks of taking it easy.

This is very jarring to the system, and eliminates a lot of the benefit of the rest you took while on vacation!

Keeping your energy balanced.

So how do you work with your energy, rather than against it? How do you listen to the cues in your environment, and slow or quicken your pace to your advantage?

The trick is in how you feel and follow your intuition.

Your intuition is a guidance system that is always with you, letting you know which directions to take and which next moves are best for you.

It often comes in subtle thoughts like “I’m really tired,” “my wife misses me since I’ve been working so much,” or “I really need to get my laundry done.”

When thoughts like this start popping up with regularity, it is your intuition trying to nudge you to either slow down or speed up based on your energetic needs.

Ignoring thoughts like these repeatedly causes you to move in opposition to your needs.

Faster isn’t always better, but neither is slower!

I’d like to close this post by pointing out that although many people think working hard or resting are unilaterally “better” energetic options, neither is. We both need forward momentum and rest, depending on where we are on the energy spectrum.

Working yourself too hard runs you down, and prevents you from synchronizing with the flow of energy of the universe. Instead of being in the right place at the right time, a workaholic will often feel like they have to fight to meet deadlines, get clients and make progress. An overburdened workaholic will also encounter many unnecessary mistakes, obstacles and stresses.

Too little action is also counterproductive. People feel better about themselves when they feel pulled by inspiration and forward momentum. It doesn’t really matter “what” moves or pulls you, but rather that you get up frequently taking steps in a direction you wish to travel.

Forward movement and rest/reflection are both needed to achieve balance with your energy. Without balance, life will be overwhelming. With balance, life becomes blissful.

So, with this in mind, take care to listen to the thoughts as they come. If you are getting reminders to speed up or slow down, listen! Your intuition knows how to keep you in the most optimal state for where your energy is right here and now.

Remember to always be working with your energy, and be willing to make adjustments as needed.

This is really interesting as my energy healer talked to me about that a few days ago. She reminded me to wave down when I am walking too fast. Indeed, this is a very important matter I have not given notice so far. It is not always crucial to do something very quickly as you might stumble and fail. Instead you should just go with the flow and this is the biggest lesson I have learnt on my whole journey.

Nevertheless, I was nearly about giving up in the last weeks and asking WHEN things will finally be changing. My ego is still fighting for survial and wants to see quick results. However, as my healer said there is no certain point in time when something has to happen (contrary to societal beliefs). This conversation had such a great impact on me and your article has just confirmed her statements. Great things take time and if you believe it and take action (in a “normal” speed) you will reach it.

Thank you Andrea for spreading this awareness as well. I do think that a lot of people are moving too fast as they want to make the change happen they have been looking for so long.
