EGO: The Thing That Wants to Compare

“EGO: The Thing That Wants to Compare” was written by guest contributor Babajide Faseyi.

Do you, ever feel something within you telling you that you are not as enough you need to be? That’s the ego.

Do you, ever feel something within you telling you that you are more or are better than others? That’s the ego.

The ego is that thing that always wants to compare. It is the thing that says: I have more, I am more beautiful, I am more handsome, I am taller, and I am more intelligent, so I am better.

Or the ego could go the other way and say: I have less, I am less beautiful, I am less handsome, I am not as good as them, and I am less intelligent, so I am just going to keep my gaze to the ground as I walk or I might just give up.

The ego makes it seem that by comparing yourself favorably is where the joy is to be found, or it makes you see yourself unfavorably and causes you to feel and act like you are less. But the real joy, the true joy is to be found when you see through the ego’s ways of causing separation between yourself and others, by it’s ways of always wanting to compare.

Blessings, Babajide

About the Author: My name is Babajide Faseyi.  I was born and raised in Nigeria and then moved to the United States for college at the age of 19.  In my 20’s, I became acutely aware that there was more to life than I had been taught and this led me to a deep search.  I read voraciously.  After a period of disillusionment with not having an outlet for the creativity that I felt within myself, I encountered Eckhart Tolle’s book, The Power of Now.  And thus, the journey of knowing who I truly am and the discovery of what I have to offer creatively began.  The links to my facebook pages where my writings are posted are –facebook.com/bababajide and facebook.com/babajideinc.
