Listen to your body…

“Listen to your body…” was written by guest contributor, Babajide Faseyi

The spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle says that after he has had 2 glasses of wine, his body tells him that’s it, no more. He shook his head as he was saying the no more part, and his facial expression showed that at the point of 2 glasses of wine, his body truly wanted no more of it.

And ever since I heard that, I have endeavored to listen to my body more and not only with wine, but also when it comes to other things. I haven’t always done what my body says especially when it comes to the eating of food, but I am getting better at listening to what my body has to say.

After all…

I would like to think my body is more intelligent than my mind. My body knows exactly how much blood to pump out of my heart, and it knows how much air to breathe in, and my body is constantly doing all sorts of calculations in which if I were in control of all my bodily functions, I wouldn’t be able to keep up with.

So our body is already a goldmine of intelligence that is always communicating and all we have to do is to listen to it, because it is already smart in all sorts of ways. But after the listening comes the doing part, and that is the part that is more challenging than just the listening.

The mastery of anything we are learning always takes some time to become accustomed to, but just like we can go from being terrified of riding a bike to riding a bike with confidence and carefreeness, the listening and the paying attention to our bodies is something that we can become masters of too.

About the Author:  My name is Babajide Faseyi.  I was born and raised in Nigeria and then moved to the United States for college at the age of 19.  In my 20’s, I became acutely aware that there was more to life than I had been taught and this led me to a deep search.  I read voraciously.  After a period of disillusionment with not having an outlet for the creativity that I felt within myself, I encountered Eckhart Tolle’s book, The Power of Now.  And thus, the journey of knowing who I truly am and the discovery of what I have to offer creatively began.  The links to my facebook pages where my writings are posted are –facebook.com/bababajide and facebook.com/babajideinc
