Live as your natural self

“Live As Your Natural Self” was written by guest contributor, Babajide Faseyi.

I got the idea to write this while I sat on the couch, right before it was time for me to get dressed and leave the house. So then the question became should I leave the writing till later or should I strike while the iron is hot and write what I had to write?

The disadvantage in leaving the writing till later was that I lose the heat of the emotion, and then the writing does not carry the proper inspirational energy that it was meant to carry before. I could also end up forgetting what I wanted to write if I left it till later.

The disadvantage in writing now was that I end up hurrying the writing, and then it would not carry as much peace and joy as it would have if it were written from a much calmer place.

In the end, I decided to write up to this point and then I went to get dressed. That was what felt most natural for me to do in that moment. I felt I had captured enough of the raw emotion, and I was beginning to run late, so I decided to complete the last paragraph later.

And now that I am back to finish up, I am happy with myself for that decision and I don’t regret it one bit. I am happy that I checked in with my heart and not my head for what to do on this one. I clearly see how I could have overthought what my heart said to do and then end up not doing it, so I am glad that in this situation, I was able to be true and authentic to myself.
