The need for others to notice me

“The need for others to notice me” was written by guest contributor, Babajide Faseyi

When I first started to write, I was just so happy to be expressing myself. I was just so happy to be at a place where I felt free to express myself. It didn’t matter too much who noticed what I was doing or not. I was just so happy to be free.

Then as time went on, it began to matter whether I was noticed or not. I began to need more than the happiness I already got from simply expressing myself. I began to need more recognition than the recognition I was happy to be getting before.

I began to notice a need in myself to get noticed and this felt like a burden on me. It didn’t feel like the old days anymore when I was simply happy to just be me.

But now, I am starting to feel like the old days again.

When I was just happy to dive deep into the depths of myself and to give honestly of myself. And what was it that I learned that has got me feeling like the old days again?

I have learned that as long as my expression is coming from the deepest and truest part of myself, then my expression is by itself it’s own reward. The feeling that I get when I have allowed myself to leave the space of my head alone and get intimate with my heart is by itself nourishing to my soul. And when I have expressed myself honestly from the depths of my heart, I truly begin to see that there is no amount of outside approval that can ever be as satisfying as the approval that comes from my own self.

Blessings,

Babajide

About the Author:  My name is Babajide Faseyi.  I was born and raised in Nigeria and then moved to the United States for college at the age of 19.  In my 20’s, I became acutely aware that there was more to life than I had been taught and this led me to a deep search.  I read voraciously.  After a period of disillusionment with not having an outlet for the creativity that I felt within myself, I encountered Eckhart Tolle’s book, The Power of Now.  And thus, the journey of knowing who I truly am and the discovery of what I have to offer creatively began.  The links to my facebook pages where my writings are posted are –facebook.com/bababajide and facebook.com/babajideinc
