The things I learn from people
“The things I learn from people” was written by guest contributor, Babajide Faseyi.
It’s great how people can teach you things without them even knowing they are teaching you. One of my friends would slice her apples into pieces before she ate them, so she would eat an apple piece by piece rather than bite into the whole thing. And what she taught me by doing that was how to savor my food more.
I didn’t learn this from her immediately, but it came to me later on that what I learned from her was that I could eat less and still enjoy my food as if I was eating more. She never knew she taught me this, but she did. She taught me by example and not by words.
Another one of my friends also taught me something about eating that he didn’t know he taught me. And what he taught me was that I could chew my food more properly before I swallow it.
Before that, I hadn’t even noticed that I could chew my food a lot more than I chewed it, leading me to enjoy my food a lot more than I had been enjoying it. And both of these things I learned from my friends may seem like small things, but they are not small for me.
And as you might expect…
It isn’t every time I eat an apple that I slice it and it isn’t every time I chew my food well before it is off to my stomach and then I take another bite, but in the times when I remember to do these things, they bring great value to my life. And there are more things I’ve learned from these 2 people that go way deeper than the eating of food, but I consider these lessons on eating to be deep too.
Blessings, Babajide

About the Author: My name is Babajide Faseyi. I was born and raised in Nigeria and then moved to the United States for college at the age of 19. In my 20’s, I became acutely aware that there was more to life than I had been taught and this led me to a deep search. I read voraciously. After a period of disillusionment with not having an outlet for the creativity that I felt within myself, I encountered Eckhart Tolle’s book, The Power of Now. And thus, the journey of knowing who I truly am and the discovery of what I have to offer creatively began.
