We all have different strengths

“We all have different strengths” was written by guest contributor, Babajide Faseyi

I once had a friend in high school who was good at basketball, but he wasn’t very good until all of a sudden he started to trust himself and his natural ability more, and then it happened almost overnight that he went from good to excellently good.

And it is just recently I remembered that, and it dawned on me that the most likely reason he improved so quickly over a short time was because he started to really trust himself. Because it wasn’t as if he got extra coaching, and there was no YouTube then.

I remember watching him back then and wondering how he became very good after being only just good for a long period of time. And it is amazing to know that what happened to him can happen to anybody who decides that they are going to trust themselves when it comes to what they love in life.

It wasn’t only the basketball players that noticed how much he improved, the whole school noticed. And I remember myself trying to compete against him by asking him to play one on one versus me. And he would say no I don’t want to play you because I know you will win; I am not good at playing one on one.

And he might have been a bit shy to say that, but he knew what his strengths were and what they weren’t. He and I both knew that when it came to full court in game play, his skills were superior to mine but in one on one play, I had the advantage. And he was okay with that. Even at the young age of only 15 or 16, he was content with the natural powers he had been blessed with.

About the Author:  My name is Babajide Faseyi.  I was born and raised in Nigeria and then moved to the United States for college at the age of 19.  In my 20’s, I became acutely aware that there was more to life than I had been taught and this led me to a deep search.  I read voraciously.  After a period of disillusionment with not having an outlet for the creativity that I felt within myself, I encountered Eckhart Tolle’s book, The Power of Now.  And thus, the journey of knowing who I truly am and the discovery of what I have to offer creatively began.  The links to my facebook pages where my writings are posted are –facebook.com/bababajide and facebook.com/babajideinc
