How to Be Productive & Happy (at the Same Time!)
Do you know how to be productive and enjoy what you’re doing at the same time?
If you are like me, you’ve probably found there is a bit of a balance when it comes to how busy you are. You want to be productive, but you don’t want to be overwhelmed. You want to be challenged, but you don’t want to be stressed. Am I right?
Well, fortunately I’ve found there is a trick to achieving balanced productivity, and it’s very, very simple.
Unfortunately, most people are completely oblivious to this trick.
Most people will tell you that if you want to be productive, you have to work hard and struggle. They’ll tell you there’s no gain without pain. I want you to know, this is completely untrue.
How do I know?
Well, today I’ve worked a grand total of 4 hours and it’s only 3pm. Most people have clocked in to work for about 5-7 hours at this point in the day, but I’ve only worked about four. Here’s what I’ve accomplished in my short workday…
Today’s list of productivity:
- Had a one-hour coaching session this morning with one of my international clients (25% of my workday).
- Wrote my bimonthly law of attraction newsletter and scheduled it to be sent out.
- Sent out an announcement about a live Q&A session to students who signed up for a package I created for a speaker series I participated in earlier this month.
- Made my daily posts to Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
- Brainstormed a list of video tutorials to create this month for my membership website.
- Formatted, edited and posted two articles for Conscious Life News, where my work is featured twice a week.
- Submitted a list of articles to two other consciousness websites I write for regularly, in5d.com and Awakening People.
- Wrote two articles for my blog, and writing the third right now. This way I won’t need to write any new blog posts until the end of the week (it’s only Monday).
- Responded to all of my email.
- Responded to all of my social media messages/comments.
- Responded to all of the comments on my blog.
So, this is quite a bunch of work in very little time, and this is a good thing. I’m visiting my family in Texas later this coming week so it’s important I get a lot done before the weekend rolls around.
However, am I frustrated? No. Am I overwhelmed? No. In fact, halfway through my day I took a two hour break to run some errands across town.
Am I having a good day? Yes! Am I loving my job? YES!
Want to know my secret?
It’s easy. In fact, it’s super, super easy.
The trick to productivity, in my book, is all about timing. To align with the right timing, I only do what I feel called to do in each moment.
When I woke up, I knew I had a lot to do. However, instead of worrying about everything that needed to be done, I just asked myself one simple question: what do I feel like getting done now?
When I need to be productive, this is always my strategy and it always works out beautifully. I just get to work, and keep asking myself the same question after each task is complete.
So, I don’t try to get the hardest things done first. I don’t follow a pre-prescribed routine. I just do whatever feels like the most inspired task in the moment.
Why does this strategy work?
This strategy works because it aligns you with the right timing for the tasks you need to complete.
Of course, if you are consistently asking yourself “what do I feel like getting done now?” you will align yourself with activities that are going to elicit the highest vibrational energy from you. You work on tasks that you are ready to tackle, and this means you are far more likely to enjoy the process of your work.
Because you are enjoying your work, your higher vibration allows for easier and faster completion.
Now, I know for certain this strategy works because each and every task I’ve completed today has simply flown by. The ideas have come to me without effort. The traffic was nonexistent on the road. The cashiers were smiling and helpful. The things I needed were on sale. The articles seem to be typing themselves (you should see just how fast this article is getting written-it’s ridiculous!).

As you can see, being truly productive is really about getting into the flow. It’s about allowing the energy of the moment to carry you. It’s not about forcing things into place or struggling to get ahead. In fact, when we try to force things into place, we really set ourselves behind!
So this is the trick to productivity. Don’t overwhelm yourself, don’t try to “get it all done.” Whenever you have an option on what to do with your time just keep asking yourself “what do I want to do next?”
Everything you need to complete will get done easily and effortlessly.
When can you use this trick?
You can use this strategy at your job or at home. You can use it to determine how to get your housework done. You can use it to decide what order you’ll run your errands in, or in which order you’ll complete your homework assignments. You can use it to decide when to check your email, pay your bills or when you should workout.
You can use this strategy just about anywhere to enhance your productivity!
Don’t take my word for it, though. Get out there and try this for yourself.
Just keep asking yourself “what do I feel like getting done now?” and let the answers to this question guide you into a higher, and more enjoyable, state of productivity.
Enjoy!
XO, Andrea

I love this article sooo much! I didnt realize I had actually applied this to my actual life until now. So I used to work 3 jobs, literally hated it .. sure the money was nice but the misery was not worth it. However I went against my gut and did it anyway; long story short .. about a year later (now) I work one job; 3 days a week; and make more money than I did working all those 3 gruesome jobs. I just kept having blind faith when I quit each job (not all at once); I just had to know that the universe had my back and it did.
I really enjoy the significance you place on alignment. It is speaking to me in so many ways! Thank you thank you thank you! Can’t wait to hear about Texas 🙂

Oh fun Rob! Well, when there are choices to be made, make the ones that feel good. Sometimes you’re right though, some jobs make a lot of the decisions for us <3

WOW Bobby! I didn’t know about all of these developments in your work life. You told me about the one job you quit, and that was a great story! This is fantastic work you’ve done. Thank you for sharing your successes 🙂 XO, Andrea
