The Law of Attraction: What Is Resistance & Is it Holding You Back?

What is resistance?

A few weeks ago I made a Law of Attraction video challenge that walked people through the process of attracting something small: either a rubber duck or a drum.

Here’s the video in case you didn’t see it yet: Law of Attraction Test: See If You Can Manifest This in 2 Days.”

Take this Law of Attraction test

Now, while I heard from a TON of people on Facebook who had tremendous success with this exercise, I did hear from a few people who did not. For those who didn’t attract their duck or drum, it was frustrating!

So today, I’d like to talk about how resistance is always responsible for unsuccessful intentional manifestations.

What is resistance?

When it comes to the Law of Attraction, resistance is simply a lack of faith in your ability to manifest.

With the Law of Attraction, first we ask, then we must BELIEVE, and then we receive. Resistance is always to blame when we find ourselves unable to believe.

Think about it, if you look around your environment right now, everything in it is pretty darn believable. Everything you’ve manifested in your life at this moment fits in with your beliefs about how the world is.

Putting new things into our lives on purpose can be challenge, then, when we carry resistance. If we don’t believe something is possible, it just can’t show up!

All of this being said, resistance is not a one-size-fits-all-situation. It can come in a couple of different forms. Below I’ve outlined two common forms of resistance:

“Personal Resistance”

For some people, resistance is personal. These people often believe in the Law of Attraction or are at least receptive to it, but they have a hard time believing they have what it takes to intentionally manifest.

In other words, they know it CAN happen, they just don’t think they have what it takes to make it happen for them!

If you think that you may be suffering from “personal resistance,” here are a few suggestions to help you out.

1. Take the pressure off.

One of the big “tricks” in manifesting is to attempt to manifest things we can believe in! So, if manifesting a 5 million dollar lottery win in the next 6 months doesn’t feel believable, dial it back a little!

A more realistic goal to start might be “I want to manifest $5000 in the next 6 months.” For some, an even more realistic goal might be “I want to manifest an unexpected $20 this week.”

Now this isn’t to say that you certainly couldn’t put a $5 million dollar manifestation on your list of intentions! Just make sure you give yourself time. When would it feel possible? A year? 5 years? 10 years? Remember, the more believable it is to you, the more successful you will be.

Remember, there’s no pressure in successful manifestations-ever. Have fun with it and be easy about it!

2. Make your vibrational work priority #1.

A lot of time personal resistance is just a byproduct of latent anxieties and stresses in life. When we are stressed or worried, we often naturally transfer this stress and worry over to the intentional manifesting process.

Unfortunately, stress is a dream killer.

The best deliberate manifestors are upbeat and go with the flow. If you’re not there yet, good news- with a little bit of practice you can be! I highly recommend daily meditation if you think worry and stress is plaguing your manifesting success.

3. Practice your LOA skills with small things to build up your belief!

Try to manifest small objects or insignificant things like symbols and signs. Little things that are of no consequence are often fun and easy to manifest.

At the same time, become highly observant of when you manifest things you’ve been thinking of. If a song you were just humming comes on the radio or if someone you were just thinking about texts you, remind yourself: “I manifested that!”.

Give yourself as much evidence that you can that you are indeed manifesting all the time. The more evidence you have, the more you will find yourself able to believe in your abilities!

“Disbelief Resistance”

The other form of resistance that pops up with the Law of Attraction is when someone simply doesn’t believe in the Law of Attraction!

Some people become aware of the LOA but they approach it from a state of cynicism. They believe it is hocus-pocus or complete nonsense only those disconnected from reality would believe in.

So, when these people attempt to manifest, their dominant thoughts about the process is “this stuff isn’t going to work!”

As a result, they don’t get what they are trying to manifest. The Law of Attraction, however, DID work-it just gave them what they believed: evidence that they couldn’t intentionally create things with their minds.

For this reason, I have never made it my objective to try and “force” someone to believe in the Law of Attraction. If someone carries disbelief resistance, there isn’t much you are going to be able to do to convince them otherwise!

No worries though, you’d be surprised how many people switch teams over time! Sometimes they don’t get it right now, but the idea takes root and a down the road they start to see evidence.

My husband is a good example of this. When I first learned about the Law of Attraction, I am pretty sure he thought I was totally insane. Today, however, he sees evidence of it in his own life all the time!

He is always pointing out things that magically “pop up” now. He’s a pretty good believer, and he’s pretty darn good at manifesting on things on purpose at this point too!

So, if you have any people in your life who carry “disbelief resistance” be easy about it. We all come to understand this material in our own time. Give people the space to accept the idea at their own pace.

I hope that this article has helped answer the question “what is resistance?”. If you have any thoughts on this topic, please share below in the comments!

Does it count if I had already manifested 4 rubber duckies just a few hours before I saw this. The answer is yes it does. Infinite possibilities ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Yes it does Denise…especially for those of us who believe time doesn’t have to be linear! LOL:)

I didn’t even know about this and manifested rubber ducks at a house last week where I have been doing a bathroom remodel. The rubber ducks had not been there for the prior weeks I was working there and suddenly last week there they were! Not just one but a Momma and four duckies sitting on the edge of the tub!

I like to manifest green traffic lights and have worked on this with great success. On days where I’m really focused I have driven around town all day and hit no red lights that held me up. I did have a couple where I was already planning a right turn and since there was no traffic in my way, the light might as well have been green for all practical purposes. When friends ride with me they think I’m nuts probably. But it works.

I used to be one of those who thought “This cant work.” But I came around. I had a dream a few weeks ago that I moved something with my mind. I think that means “Your mind is more powerful than you think, and you have control!” The thing I moved was a coffee pot with a little terrarium in it, earth and plants. Not exactly sure what that means yet… maybe it means get off the coffee again and go save the planet? :p

Oh yes, Mike, I love using the LOA for traffic purposes. A very convenient place to apply our skills! 🙂

If I want to manifest deliberately, I very often become anxious. Especially with important things. It’s like with competition in sport. I am super in playing table tennis when it’s just for fun. Once we start counting I play worst.
And then manifestation doesn’t work. For me it is much easier to have a wish, don’t think “I’ll manifest this now”, then don’t think about it at all anymore and be as happy as possible from moment to moment. And when I finally manifested something, I really have to become aware that I did so. And if the manifestation takes longer and I become aware of the time, I’m getting nervous again, even if I can see already results that prove the upcoming manifestation. Meditation helps to stay in the happy mood moment by moment.
And thanks to your wonderful coaching, Andrea, I am making big progress. In the long run my success is inevitable!!!!

Good point Kirsten, the more deliberate we are about things, often, the more resistant we become! Unless we feel “sure,” you’re strategy is much more likely to be effective. Thanks for sharing and for your kind words!

    Hi there.
Strange to some I know, but I truly believe I am going to manifest a large amount of money from some kind of win. I remain positive and focused but sometimes when I don’t win I become disheartened and I feel this is causing a block to money coming to me. How can I counteract this please? Thank you.
