Fearless Friday: Are You Keeping it Real?

“Fearless Friday: Are You Keeping it Real?” was written by guest contributor, Jennifer Nguyen.

It’s Fearless Friday!

Are you “Keeping it real?”

It takes a brave soul to set their self free from the fear of not fitting in! Letting your truth shine means you’ll have to embrace the real you, eccentricity and all!

The great news is nothing is more refreshing than your authentic truth!

Growing up I was often the new kid, which is never easy. I learned from a very early age to rely on my strengths and celebrate my talents.

These days handstands can happen anywhere, I’m know for spontaneously bursting into song and do my best thinking in the shower (I really do need a whiteboard in there!). Owning our quirks transforms the fear of judgment into self-love and acceptance for “every part of you.”

Here are a few ways you can be more assertive and share the legacy of you with the world…

“It’s not what you say but how you say it.”

There’s a lot of fear that shows up in the form of anxiety for many people when it comes to speaking up for what they believe in. This can cause you to avoid speaking at all because you’re afraid of offending anyone. Chances are you’re going to annoy someone or arouse resentment along the way but don’t let it keep you from speaking up for what you want!

For me it was quite the opposite growing up in South Jersey I had to learn to tone it down a little (okay a lot) and be more considerate when “speaking my piece.” It’s not that I worry now how others will react to me speaking my mind but I’ve developed skills in being mindful when it comes to “thinking before I speak” and “choosing my delivery wisely.”

The bottom line is not everyone is going to like what you have to say, don’t take it personally! Speak your truth confidently and with wonderful intention.

Activate your Yellow Chakra (3rd Chakra).

We lose a lot of our power when we take shit from others; in an effort to protect our hearts we close ourselves off.

Don’t hold back for fear of being vulnerable. If you are holding back it’s simply because you haven’t yet owned your own strength!

The yellow chakra is associated with getting in touch with your power and building confidence. To help activate your third chakra spend some time bathing in the sun, eat some yellow fruits and veggies and practice yoga poses that strengthen the abdominal muscles (this area houses your “gut feelings”!) Before we can open our hearts (and show off that quirky side;) we have to stop giving our power away and learn to “own our own energy!”

“Ask for what you want and be prepared to get it” ~ Maya Angelou

Meditation is a powerful tool when it comes to tapping into what you want. Once you’re clear on what you want, asking for it can be a little bit trickier.

I remember always being afraid to ask for what I wanted when I was younger; my grandmother would always say, “The worst thing they can say is “NO!” Most of us are afraid of others reactions to the things we want, we fear we may look selfish for our desires or we’re most afraid to be told “NO!” Don’t let fear keep you from asking for the things you want.

Believe you are worthy and come right out and ask for it! Let the Universe know exactly how much you want it and don’t have limited mind set on what’s possible!

I haven’t completely conquered my fears, but I love and accept myself completely just the way I am, and I am a little less afraid to “Keep it Real!”

Have a great weekend,

Jennifer
