Coming Out of the Closet & the LOA: The Truth About Exposing Yourself
Like many bloggers and web administrators, I happen to be a bit introverted. While I am proud to be an introvert and I realize that having this personality style helps me succeed in many ways, there are a few downsides to my reserved nature.
One of the downsides is that sometimes I am uncomfortable sharing my thoughts with others. When I learned about the Law of Attraction, part of me wanted to scream about it to the world, but the other part of me thought it was best to keep this information quiet. I knew there would be people who thought I was totally nuts. Coming out of the Law of Attraction closet was a process for me, and in some ways, a very scary one.
On my journey, I had learned very early on that many people would not want to hear about the Law of Attraction if I explained it to them. While my husband thankfully “got it” pretty much immediately, most of the other people in my life I shared this information with either ignored me, laughed at me or got visibly upset with me about it.
I now know why this is, but at the time this issue was quite bothersome to me, so I felt it was best to just keep this information to myself. I stopped sharing my knowledge about the Law of Attraction with others and stayed pretty quiet about it for a few years, until my belief grew too strong to keep it to myself anymore.
As a result? Many of the people around me were pretty surprised when I launched my website. I would say that most of the people in my life were either unaware of my belief in this philosophy, or were surprised by how important it was to me and how much I knew about it.
Suddenly, I was completely exposed for who I was. While on the outside I probably appeared pretty calm about it, on the inside I was cringing, and bracing for the backlash.
But you know what? It never came. While I was nervous that family and friends might reject me or hold me at arm’s length once I came out of the closet, the exact opposite actually happened.
Friends and relatives started reading my blog, and now many of them actually approach me to talk about the Law of Attraction. In fact, a number of the people who brushed me off initially have told me they are now intentionally using this information to create the things they want in life.
So, what’s the moral of the story here? I think that my “coming out” was a lesson to me that when we are open about our thoughts and beliefs, we send a message to the universe that loudly announces “this is who I am.” As a result, the universe brings more people, events and circumstances that resonate at that same frequency. New friends come into our lives, and old friends and family begin to adjust their frequencies to accommodate us. Those who are a completely mismatch either change their tune or fade into the background.
This isn’t to say that through exposing yourself with the Law of Attraction, suddenly everyone around you will acknowledge and use this information. In fact, I can still see that if I try to push this philosophy on someone, they are usually still uninterested or offended by it (for more information on this phenomenon check out “Why Some People Don’t Buy Into the Law of Attraction”). But, if we simply allow our light to show, more people will naturally be drawn to this information, like moths to a flame.
I’ve just learned that by sharing my story, I attract more like-minded folks and people who are interested in learning more. By being myself (without asserting that anyone else should be like me), I’ve gained more people in my life who “get it.” I don’t have to force this information on anyone, I just have to let people see me for who I am.
