Don’t worry about the tough times

“Don’t worry about the tough times” was written by guest contributor, Babajide Faseyi.

Have you ever heard that, “Tough times don’t last but tough people do?” I remember that statement because it was carved onto a wooden frame on the wall in my childhood home. But I have more to say about it now as I’ve left home and experienced some tough times.

I believe the statement is true, because it has been true in my experience. The times that have been the toughest in my life, are the same times that I look back now on as not being the end of my world after all.

From where I am in the present, I can always see where I was back then. I can see through the delusions I believed in and held so dearly; and I can see how my anger and pride got in the way of my seeing clearly.

And what’s interesting is that, I held onto my anger and pride like a badge of honor in those times, thinking that they were somehow helping me, but they were only making a tough time to be tougher. Looking back on the toughest of situations I was in, the solutions on many occasions were simpler than I had made them out to be.

From my experience, I would say that it isn’t even that necessary to be a tough person to get through a dark tunnel and see the light of day. It wasn’t a tough heart that would have helped me through my tougher times; it was having a soft, open and humble heart that would have helped me even more while in my toughest of times.

Blessings, Babajide
