The Law of Attraction: Are You Overthinking It?

Many of us have heard that with the Law of Attraction our thoughts become things.  As a result, we often believe we need to start thinking more thoughts about the things we want. However, overthinking can actually push our dreams away from us.  Here’s why:

Overthinking lowers your vibration.

Have you ever noticed that when you think deeply about something you don’t have you tend to get frustrated, annoyed or upset about it?   Like when you try to understand why someone doesn’t like you, or when you try to figure out how to find something you’ve lost.

For example, let’s say you really want to manifest a million dollars, but right now money is tight.   When you start to think hard about manifesting a million dollars with the Law of Attraction, your brain may start to fire off thoughts that spiral into a negative place like this:

“I want a million dollars.”

“I want to be a millionaire.”

“How am I supposed to get a million dollars?”

“How long will this take?”

“Are these thoughts working?”

“What am I supposed to be thinking right now?”

“Am I doing this right?!”

“Ugh! This will never work!”

This kind of train of thought is problematic because in order to get the things we want, we must be in a high vibrational, high emotional state.  We only manifest the things we want when we have good feeling thoughts.

The type of thinking above does not feel good, and therefore it will not help us manifest a million dollars.

This is why overthinking is a dream killer.

So, how do you attract what you want (without overthinking)? 

The answer is simple.  Instead of focusing on your thoughts, focus on your feelings. 

While it is true that the Law of Attraction is responding to your thoughts, it is how the thoughts feel that is the true indicator of what you are attracting.

With the Law of Attraction, the universe is responding to (and matching) your vibrational energy.  When you are happy and uplifted, the universe delivers more things that make you happy and uplift you.  When you are frustrated and upset, the universe pushes the things you want away from you to match your frustration.

By making it your goal to feel good as often as possible, the universe will start to deliver things to you that make you feel good.  All kinds of things!

Good feelings attract the right thoughts.

When you feel good, not only will the universe start delivering good things to you, but it will also start to bring you good feeling thoughts about all kinds of subjects.  This includes good feeling thoughts about the million dollars.

You may have noticed when you feel good, you tend to be more optimistic.  This is why people often try to butter you up before they ask you for a favor or give you bad news.  Being in a good mood helps you think more positively about everything!

The moral of the story is this: you don’t have to try to find the right thoughts about the things you want.  If you have the right feelings, the right thoughts will come to you naturally.

So, instead of narrowing the focus of your thoughts into one specific area (like a million dollars) and consequently getting your vibration all out of whack, change your approach.  Make it your goal to feel good, and let the thoughts fall into place on their own.

One last note…

Does this mean you can’t ever think about manifesting a million dollars?  Absolutely not!  It simply means that when you try to think about the million dollars without feeling good first, you are putting the cart before the horse.

Be happy first.  That’s the way to everything you want, including the million dollars.

When you are in a good emotional state, the thoughts you need to think in order to manifest the things you want will come to you effortlessly.  It’s really that simple.

So, the only thing you really need to do, at any given point in time, is ask yourself “do I feel good right now?”

If you feel good, keep doing what you’re doing.  If you feel bad or even just “so-so,” move on to something else that makes you feel better.

    Loved reading this post. I think if you want to feel good about whatever it is you want to manifest you have to act as if you’ve already got it. Obviously you can’t go on a wild spending spree if you’re believing you have a million dollars, but just buy an occasional luxury.

    Heyya., I love what you mention about following your feelings and knowing that as long as you feel good, you’ll manifest things that feel the same way! That really resonates with me. And sometimes feeling good/better is just letting yourself cry and relax,..or do nothing.

    What you said about how a wrong decision can’t be made also rings true. It’s important to remember that we will always get to where we want to go and that the path in between doesn’t matter. I forget this a lot.

    Thank you for this post Andrea. I woke up this morning realizing that this is my problem with everything, with work, school and life in general. I was always worried about everything which I know has led me to anxiety and depression. I typed in on Google: overthinking and the law of attraction and was so glad to find your post. I’ve seen your videos and have commented on some of them on Youtube. I don’t know if you remember my comment about manifesting seeing pink cars on your video about manifesting rubber ducks in two days but it’s me, Dillan Castain. I feel more confident in my manifesting ability and more at peace now that I have gotten down to the problem. Thanks again!
